ROME CITY — Young naturalists and explorers can uncover hidden treasures at the Gene Stratton-Porter Historic Site’s “Indiana Gene” Explorer Camp on Sylvan Lake June 22-24. Indiana wildflowers, creatures of the forest and other natural wonders will be experienced through photography, writing and crafts. There will also be tips on hiking safety and how humans can help nature by recycling.
Participants should dress for both inside and outside activities and bring a camera. Snacks are included. Families may bring a picnic lunch after camp each day. Cost is $40 per child or $30 for early bird registrations received by June 6.
The Gene Stratton-Porter site specializes in plants and wildflowers indigenous to Indiana. The site is part of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites, a division of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. It is located five miles west of Kendallville on U.S. 6
