To the editor:

The DeKalb Outdoor Theater has completed a successful inaugural season. Twenty-one events were presented to greater-than-expected audiences who were overwhelmingly positive in their view of their Outdoor Theater experiences. All the events featured performers either from DeKalb County, an adjacent county or had significant local ties. The cooperative efforts of the City of Auburn, the DeKalb County Fair Association and the DeKalb Outdoor Theater Board, along with the many contributions, made this possible. Foundations, corporations, groups and individuals had the vision to make financial contributions to fund the project.

We cannot say enough about the help from our volunteers, who helped with activities including directing traffic, operating sound systems, stage set-up and cleanup.

The stage itself received many compliments. Performers and audiences alike were very pleased with the sounds and sound generation.

On the facility side, we want to thank Mike Ley (Signature Construction by Mike Ley), who oversaw the construction of our facility, and Michael Kline & Associates for engineering associated with the project. Votaw Electrical came in well under budget and made contributions in both material and labor. Fetters Construction did much of the construction work and contributed the two sets of access steps on the stage front, along with Diskey Signs who contributed signage.

The DeKalb Outdoor Theater Board is now turning its attention to preparing for the 2010 season. We want to make some improvements in our facilities and equipment, and we want to develop a great series of events. We are always looking for volunteers to help make all this happen. Please check our Web site at www.dekalboutdoortheater.org for continuing updates.
