KENDALLVILLE — What’s a Halloween Zombie Walk?
“I don’t think we’ve been asked to approve something like this before,” Board of Public Works chairman Jim Dazey said Tuesday morning when reviewing Corey Kline’s request to hold a Zombie Walk in the city’s downtown business district.
The board granted Kline permission for the Zombie Walk on Saturday at 4 p.m. Participants will assemble in the American Legion Post 86 parking lot on West Diamond Street, cross Rush Street to Main Street and then north on the west side of Main Street to Mitchell Street. They will cross to the east side of Main Street and proceed south back to the parking lot.
Participants will walk the route dressed and acting like zombies. When asked on the application to describe any entertainment or activities that will create loud noise, Kline wrote, “Participants will likely moan, stagger, limp, walk slowly and say brains.”
He expects about 100 participants.
In other business, the board:
• Denied a Morton Street homeowner’s request to adjust a water bill even lower after board members in May authorized it’s adjustment from $900 to $176.70.
• Approved fire chief Mike Riehm’s request to purchase a 14-foot trailer for $1,855 from VanGorder Sales, Inc. that will carry an ATV and rescue trailer pulled by the ATV for wilderness rescues.
• Approved hiring B. Lash Improvements for $7,902 to replace the basement ceiling, lights and registers at fire station No. 2. B. Lash Improvements submitted the lowest of three bids.
• Approved the purchase of a 2010 F-250 truck with a snow plow package for the Water Quality Control Department from Max Platt Ford for $31,961. The vehicle will be used for maintenance and service calls and replaces two older vehicles sold in the city auction. Max Platt Ford submitted the lowest of two bids.
• Approved the Kendallville Chamber of Commerce request to close Main Street for approximately two hours on Dec. 5 for the annual holiday parade.
