Birthday walk

Retired firefighter and lifelong Butler resident Gary “Red” VanZile, second from the left, celebrated his 85th birthday Friday with a mile walk along Main Street (U.S. 6) with his daughter Coleen, son Mike, and grandsons Skylar VanZile, left, and Landon VanZile, right. VanZile said he feels “peppy,” is happy for his health and enjoys talking walks around his neighborhood every day. He worked for and owned Red’s Texaco at the southeast corner of Main and Broadway for 12 years. His wife of 60 years, Helen, died last year. “Mother would be proud,” he said.
