MARION — Churubusco’s boys and girls cross country teams faired well against a highly competitive field — the largest meet in the state — at the Marion Invitational on Saturday.

The boys finished second in their division with 54 points, falling only to Lincolnview by five points. The division was comprised of 12 teams, including Adams Central, Southern Wells, Southwood and Canterbury.

Churubusco’s closest opponent was Liberty Christian, which finished with 92 points.

Sam Keily paced the Eagles with a time of 17:26.6. Churubusco had three other runners finish in the top 15 — Levi Skinner in sixth, Eli Lantz in eighth and Shawn Prater in 13th.

Dylan Stroder took 25th, Kyle Brandt finished in 33rd and Wyatt Neireiter came in 54th.

Other Churubusco finishers were Ethan Palmer, Kaden Fields and William Aspy in 82nd, 83rd and 84th, respectively.

The girls team also competed well.

Katie Graft placed fifth with a time of 22:15.9, and Allie Basinger came in 12th. Kaitlynn Schuman finished 32nd and Eva Refeld took 42nd.

The boys were coming off a first-place finish at the Panther Invite at Prairie Heights the week prior, beating Garrett by two points and Lakeland by six points.

The Eagles were led by Basinger, Lantz, Keily and Prater.
