CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s volleyball team is off to a 1-3 start after defeating Adams Central and falling to Whitko, Garrett and Woodlan so far this season.
Whitko’s volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory over Churubusco last week in three close games: 27-25, 25-23 and 26-24.
Morgan Howard led Whitko with 14 kills, one block and four aces. Haley Howard recorded seven kills, five blocks and two aces. Jadin Parrett added seven kills and four blocks, and Reese Bradford had two aces and 30 assists.
For Churubusco, Melanie Geiger had eight kills, Hannah Boersema recorded seven and Madi Gaff added six kills. Boersema, Katy Krider and Kilah Smith all had two aces apiece.
Mallory Sphar led the team in assists with 26.
Churubusco’s junior varsity squad won in two sets, 25-23, 26-24.
Churubusco’s volleyball team is hosting a Pink Out night during its game on Sept. 5 against Eastside to raise money for breast cancer awareness.
Churubusco won 3-1 over Adams Central on Aug. 20, led by 11 kills from Gaff and 10 from Melanie Geiger.
Isabella Zuk and Krider each tallied three aces, and Gaff and Bree Fulkerson had two blocks apiece.
The Eagles fell to Garrett on Aug. 22, 3-0.
Woodlan defeated Churubusco in three games, 25-19, 25-18, 25-9 in the season opener on Aug. 19.
