The weather finally seems to have broken!
I know summer isn’t technically here yet, but this sun has been shining a few days a week, and I no longer have to wear my bulky sweaters to work anymore.
Once summer hits, I know I don’t have to be stuck in the house. I love walking or running on the trail in our housing development. It’s so peaceful just to spend time outdoors.
It reminds me of when I was a child and would play outside every day. I would wake up, eat breakfast, go play, come back for lunch, go play, come home for dinner, then play some more. I was outside any chance I got, unless I wanted to play Crash Bandicoot or Sonic.
In the winter, I will go out of my way to stay inside because I hate being cold. By the end of that dreaded season, I get a little antsy for the nice weather.
The house my husband Chris and I bought last year has a deck, and I love to sit out there and eat dinner or read. It’s just so nice to get the fresh air.
It does make me miss home a little more though. My parents saved for years to buy a small pontoon boat. It holds about nine people. My dad is a teacher, so he spends most of his summer on the boat. Last summer we were only able to go on a few times since we can’t go home often.
But now that we are settled in Indiana, last year we moved in to our house about half way through summer, I am interested in exploring what the area has to offer. I know there is a great debate over who has the most lakes, but I’m more interested in what the lakes have to offer. I would love to find a lake that has things to do. At home, we have lakes where we can kayak, and pedal boat and just go swimming.
We are YMCA members and they have an indoor and outdoor pool where I want to go swimming. I haven’t really had access to a pool since I was a kid, so I plan on taking advantage of it.
I also want to find restaurants where I can eat outside, maybe even along water. In Fort Wayne last year my friends Kim, Kelly and I went to a place where you can eat along one of the rivers that goes through Fort Wayne. It was really fun.
And probably my most favorite part of summer is wearing cute sun dresses and going to festivals. I love walking around and seeing everything that is offered. You never know what new food or game will be there, and it’s so fun finding out.
As probably my favorite time of year, aside from Christmas, I am just looking forward to learning more about the place we chose to live. We still like living here, and there is so much more to learn.
So if anyone has any suggestions about outdoor-related activities, please let me know. I love planning surprise dates for Chris and me and would like it to be something fun.
This kind of weather feels like it’s only around for a short time. I want to make the best of the time we have.
