GARRETT — An Auburn woman was injured in three-vehicle crash north of Garrett Wednesday afternoon.

Samantha Anne Shelton, 42, suffered a head laceration and compound fracture to her lower left arm, and DeKalb EMS took her to Parkview Regional Medical Center, according to a report from the Garrett Police Department.

The crash occurred about 4:24 p.m., 735 feet west of the intersection of S.R. 8 and S.R. 327 at the north edge of Garrett. According to the report, Shelton was driving a 2003 Nissan Xterra SUV eastbound on S.R. 8 and was slowing or stopping for the four-way stop when her car was struck in the rear by a 2013 Subaru Impreza driven by Mark Anthony Markowski, 31, of Fort Wayne.

The impact of the crash caused Shelton’s vehicle to spin out of control into the westbound lane, where it was struck by a 2017 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Willie Earl Mackey, 43, of South Bend, according to the report.

No one was cited, and all three vehicles were towed from the scene, police said. Damage was estimated at about $25,000 combined for all three vehicles.

The Garrett Police Department was assisted by the Garrett Fire Department, DeKalb EMS, Corunna Fire Department and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department.
