ANGOLA — Dr. Melchor Mercado has accepted a psychiatrist position at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital.

Mercado comes to Cameron from Defiance Hospital in Defiance, Ohio, where he acted as the medical director at the Coping Center for more than 20 years.

Mercado is the only psychiatrist in the Cameron Hospital system and is the first to hold the position fulltime.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Mercado to our already talented Cameron staff,” said Connie McCahill, president and CEO of Cameron. “This year and years to come are focused on positive growth so we can expand our care capabilities to the Angola area. This addition is just one more example of our commitment to Steuben County and its wellness.”

Mercado will be seeing patients that are 18 years or older at his office located at 301 E. Maumee St. He will be supervising a mid-level provider in the upcoming months and currently has a licensed therapist on staff, Lisa Bartelheim, who will be doing both one-on-one and group sessions.

The Cameron Psychiatry office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m to 5 p.m.

Mercado officially began his role at Cameron on June 3.
