Wreck closes I-69 north

Crews work to cleanup debris from a three vehicle accident on Interstate 69 near the Ashley-Hamilton exit, mile marker 340, Friday morning. The accident, which occurred in the construction zone, involved three semi-trucks. The interstate’s northbound lanes were closed for several hours while crews cleared the wreckage and a truckload of lumber from the roadway, which was spilled in the collision. One person was transported to a Fort Wayne hospital with minor injuries. Northbound traffic was rerouted to U.S. 6 at the Waterloo-Kendallville exit at mile marker 334. Northbound traffic that had been rerouted ended up heading north into Steuben County on Old U.S. 27 and was reportedly backed up from the Public Square all the way south to Pleasant Lake. An ISP trooper was assigned to the Square to help move the northbound traffic through the roundabout. Ashley Fire Department and the Indiana State Police responded to the scene.
