Pinktober being observed

Radiology nurse Kristen Hake, left, and Brittany Johnson, coordinator of Cameron Memorial Community Hospital’s Women’s Center, hang pink ribbons on light poles on the Public Square in honor of Pinktober, a women’s health and breast cancer awareness month initiative. In addition to the ribbons, the city installed breast cancer awareness banners on the light poles circling the mound. Thanks to a special lighting installation by Cardinal IG, a Fremont glass manufacturer, the Steuben County Soldiers’ Monument was to be illuminated in pink starting Tuesday night, which will continue throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Cameron Hospital Auxiliary is helping fund the Pinktober initiative.
