GARRETT —Quick response by Garrett firefighters Friday night saved one vehicle and a nearby garage.
Garrett Fire Chief Dana Treesh said his department was called about 9:30 p.m. to the Tom Sutton home in the 400 block of South Lee Street.
Upon arriving three minutes later, firefighters found a 2000 Saturn fully engulfed in flames in the driveway, with the fire spreading to a second vehicle nearby. The fire was quickly extinguished, with the Saturn a total loss.
A 1996 Ford Mustang sustained about $2,000 in damage, according to Treesh, with another $500 in damage to the siding of the garage.
“They saved my garage and everything else for me,” Sutton said about the firefighters. “It’s the second time I’ve seen them do this in our block. These guys are just amazing.”
The Garrett Police Department and city electric utility crews assisted at the scene.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown, Treesh said.
