WHITLEY COUNTY — The Indiana High School Athletic Association announced its new sectional alignments recently, and local teams will be seeing new opponents this fall.
Churubusco joins a new sectional, Sectional 44 in Class A, along with some familiar foes, such as Adams Central and Fremont, along with Caston, North Miami, Northfield, Southwood and Triton.
The Eagles, Southwood and Adams Central are expected to be the top teams in the sectional, with Fremont and Caston having struggling programs in recent seasons.
Columbia City moves to Sectional 19 in Class 4A. Columbia City will face a heavy Northeast 8 sectional, which includes DeKalb, East Noble and Leo, as well as Angola, Northridge, NorthWood and Wawasee.
Columbia City moved out of Sectional 20, which included difficult Summit Athletic Conference teams like Bishop Dwenger, Wayne and Snider. Leo was also in Sectional 30.
Whitko joins Sectional 25 in Class 2A, along with Bluffton, Central Noble, Eastside, Fairfield, Bishop Luers, Prairie Heights and Woodlan — likely bad news for the Wildcats, who will now face powerhouse Bishop Luers and a competitive Woodlan squad in the tournament.
