WESTFIELD — Five Carroll High School soccer players are members of the Fort Wayne United U-18 boys team that won the Indiana State Cup on June 2 at Grand Park in Westfield. The team will play in the Mid-West Regional in Saginaw, Michigan, on June 21 and 26 for a chance to advance to nationals.
The Carroll players on the team are juniors Trevor Horton, Sam Michaels, Peyton Fosnough and Nick Harding, and senior Patryk Olczyk.
The team was down 0-1 at halftime during the cup game, despite outmatching Millennium FC in possession. The second half comeback started with a goal by Olczyk early in the period, followed by a penalty kick also by Olczyk.
The defense played well, returning the ball to midfielders, resulting in a third goal by the team’s forwards. The final goal was assisted by Carroll’s Harding, and forwards scored a third goal. United defeated Millennium 4-1.
With the exception of Olczyk, who graduated this year, the Carroll players will return to play for the Chargers in the fall.
