DeKalb County Courthouse custodial supervisor Larry Lane, center, demonstrates the building’s new secure entrance to county officials June 10. The system is expected to begin operation within a few weeks. All people entering the courthouse will pass through a metal-detector chamber on the right side of the unit. Everyone exiting will pass through the left side. The system is installed at the north door of the courthouse, which will be the only public entrance. Deputies of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department will monitor the entrance. Plans call for requiring the general public to leave cellphones outside the courthouse.
