Karate students win awards

Students from Franz Karate competed in the Summer Smash Martial Arts tournament hosted at Concordia Lutheran Seminary in Fort Wayne July 10. The event was attended by over 150 competitors across the Tri-State area. Earning placings in the event in their respective divisions included, from left, Michelle Kilgore, second weapons, third forms; Grace Heimach, third weapons, third forms, first kumite; Jacob Rigelman, third weapons, first forms, fourth kumite; Doug Kilgore, second forms, first kumite; Brittney Koza, first weapons, first Forms, fourth kumite; Danielle Kilgore, first weapons, first forms, second kumite; Kelsie Jackson, first tournament and did well; Jayden Wilkinson, second Kumite; Jeet Patel, third weapons, third forms; Antonio Glaser, second weapons, second forms, second kumite; Timmy Font, first weapons, first forms, first fighting; Kush Patel, second weapons, second forms; and Aya Garza, third weapons, second forms, fourth Kumite. Timmy Font won over grand champion for both the 12-and-under forms and weapons divisions. Jacob Rigelman won the adult under black belt forms grand champion. Brittney Koza earned the women’s black belt grand champion in forms. Franz Karate is celebrating 30 years of teaching in the northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio area.
